The Miracle of Muscle Testing
Like so many people that do strenuous work or have had a physical accident, my lower back went out so badly that I could not move from the sheer pain for days. I kept mobile with two years of weekly visits to a chiropractor and selling my business. Unfortunately, this did not solve the problem. Not wanting an operation, I turned to alternative medicine.
In traditional Chinese medicine the body is thought of as a whole being. It is understood that man is a structural, chemical, mental and spiritual being. If one system is out of balance, it is thought to affect the whole. The Chinese doctors improve the muscle by restoring the energy flow of these systems; this also gives relief to the organ which is sharing that system.
Dr. Goodheart, a 1960’s Detroit Chiropractor, developed a technique for MD’s and chiropractors called Applied Kinesiology. His protégé, Dr. John Thie, developed a lay person’s system called Touch For Health (TFH). These modalities combine acupuncture theory with a variety of western discoveries that involved touch reflexes and Muscle Testing. Today there are many practitioners and courses that use a form of Muscle Testing for healing: Kinesiology, Touch for Health, Shiatsu, Reiki, Body Talk, Naturopathy or any other modality that uses chakras or meridians.
Meridians are invisible pathways for positive and negative energy (Qi, Chi, Prana) to flow through the body. There are 12 main meridians: Lung, Large Intestine, Stomach, Spleen, Heart, Small Intestine, Bladder, Kidney, Pericardium/Circulation /Sex, Sanjiao/Triple Warmer, Gall Bladder and Liver. These pathways are different on each meridian; the meridian travel deep in the body and on the outside along the skin.
Our skin’s sensory system is so acute that we can notice the faintest breeze. Our brains is amazing; it can sense, retain, configure and respond in a split second. Our mind contains all the information of what is wrong in our bodies and how to fix it. We just need a way to comprehend an answer. A literal question is the most important part. For example, if you Muscle Tested and asked if the person had hair and the muscle testing said “yes” when the person was bald, you might think the answer was incorrect…did you specify that the hair be on the head?
If you go to an alternative medicine practitioner, he/she may have used muscle testing to determine what and how to help you. There are a few different methods used. Some use a finger lock technique where the practitioner’s thumbs and pointer fingers are linked together forming a figure eight. By trying to pull them apart, he/she will get a “yes” or “no” answer, “yes”, being locked and “no” unlocking. Some practitioners use the client’s arm as a lever, with “yes” being a solid or strong arm and “no”, the arm is limp or lets go. Another method of Muscle Testing is Body Pendulum (this one you can try):
1) Stand upright.
2) Repeat this three times to program the mind.
a)Lean forward from the ankles saying (remain stiff like a board), “Forward with out falling is a ‘yes’”.
- b) Lean backwards from the ankles saying, “backward with out falling is a ‘no’”.
3) Test it by saying to yourself or out loud, “My first name is _____. (nick names sometimes do not work). If you go forward, that is correct. Practice with a few obvious answers to train yourself: for example, “ I am wearing blue or I live on Mars.”
If you are not responding, go to the washroom, drink water or zip up three times (using your hand, pretend you are zipping up- start from the bottom of the torso and follow up to the lips.)
There are many different reasons why a person’s meridian may be blocked. Physical, emotional, mental or spiritual injury, and the deeper or longer the person has had the issue, may determine the number of sessions needed.
To take control of my situation and to save me from an operation, I did the following technique three times a day for months. Taking about two minutes, you can do the Quick Fix sitting, standing or lying down. Take a breath and sense if there is any pain or discomfort anywhere in your body. Put a number to it, 1 being hardly anything and 10 being almost unbearable. This is very important since most people need a comparison of “before” and “after”.
Starting with the front of your body, rub all the coloured points on the Quick Fix picture. When you do your legs, rub downwards so it will not cause constipation. The secret for my lower back pain: lightly pinch along the top of your shoulder, towards the ear, two to three times. If this does not work, pinch across, between your hips. When finished all the points, take a couple of deep breaths and re-evaluate the pain. If, by the second time, the pain level has not decreased considerably, you may need a chiropractor’s adjustment. Sometimes the body is protecting itself from injury and will not re-adjust.
